What is the right fit for you?
Ashtanga yoga is one of the more quick paced styles of yoga, and is often described as 'power yoga'. It is notable for the set sequence of postures that the practice has. Each posture is a preparation for the next, developing the strength and flexibility that is required in order to move on. The practice is designed to gradually open up blockages inside the body/mind/nervous system and awaken the practitioner to a greater sense of space and freedom within. The practice content consists of the Ujayi breath (a specific breath technique), Bandhas (internal energetic locks within the body) and driste (gaze). This tristana forms the basis of Ashtanga yoga.
This energising style of yoga is suitable for those who enjoy floing movement in their class. The style of the class is Vinyasa which means that the flow of the poses are synchronised with the breath. Postures are explained when introduced and different sequences are practiced to work on all areas of the body with a emphasis on breathing, alignment, strength and flexibility. Each class finishes with a guided relaxation to integrate your practice and relax the mind and body. These classes are both fun and lively yet meditative to cultivate mindfullness and peace, all which incorporate the philosophy and spirit of yoga.
Hatha Yoga classes are a slower and more relaxing pace of yoga that stretch, strengthen and tone your whole body while rejuvenating your system and improving breathing. Breathing and movements are generally slower. The slower movements work on the internal working of the body and tone and rejuvenate the organs. Breath and movements are generally slower and as with all classes in the studio, each student is encouraged to move at their own pace. The main focus in these classes are relaxation, injury recovery, improved flexibility, stress reduction and most importantly the cultivation of a peaceful mind.
Restorative Yoga is a gentle effortless form of yoga designed to impact, in subtle yet powerful ways, the mind and body. All postures are practiced with body completely relaxed, supported by props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks to ensure maximum physical comfort. This yoga practice includes guided meditation and deep relaxation; its stillness helps to rest the body, calm the mind, and quiet the nervous system. The poses are designed to be comfortable.
This complements an active yoga practice & anyone can practice Restorative Yoga, regardless of age, shape or physical condition, even those with no Yoga experience.
Chanting & Meditation class
This class is open to anyone who would like to enjoy the benefits of a subtle meditation class. In this class we will do some gentle movements, chant some simple mantras and sit with still with our breath, allowing our energy body to absorb the peaceful and subtle vibrations of the mantra Om and other simple mantras. We will also explore some mantra meditation techniques and some Vedic chants. Everyone welcome. No experience necessary. Just come with a curious and open mind!
Sivananda Yoga is a style of hatha yoga that are based around 12 asanas (postures) and generally classes are slower and more meditative. We are constantly being brought outside ourselves in our everyday life and this style of class encourages you to go deep within. The slower movements work on the internal working of the body and tone and rejuvenate the organs. Breath, mantra and meditation is also a part of this class so you can experience many aspects of the yoga practice and their benefits. Anyone can attend this class and each student is encouraged to move at their own pace. The main focus in these classes are to teach you about yoga, improve you flexibility, reduce your physical and mental stress and most importantly the cultivation of a peaceful mind.
